1-4 PM. Peace for the Streets by Kids in the Streets is sponsoring a Summit for Homeless People. We will have youth/young adult and older adult groups and will report out in a public forum. Through Sun. June 22. The Seattle Central Area Chamber of Commerce proudly announces the 2008 Juneteenth Festival for the 35th Year. On June 19th, 1865, two and a half years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, General Gordon Granger reached Galveston, Texas with the news that those enslaved were now free. Juneteeth, the Celebration of Freedom, commemorates the end of slavery by enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation: this is a time for the community to reflect and rejoice with celebration.
